INTERNSHIP IN EQUINE MEDICINE, SURGERY AND ANAESTHESIA
Applications for our 2027 Equine Internship for veterinarians interested in a 18-month internships position in equine medicine, surgery and anaesthesia at South Eastern Equine Hospital will open in December 2026. The available positions begin in July 2027.
South Eastern Equine Hospital is an equine referral hospital situated in the south east of Melbourne. The hospital is staffed by 3 specialist veterinarians – 2 in equine surgery and an internal medicine specialist. There are also 6 experienced associate veterinarians, 3 veterinary interns, 3 qualified equine vet nurses, 2 trainee vet nurses, multiple horse handlers and stable hands. We also have a specialist ophthalmologist visit the practice on a fortnightly basis and a specialist veterinary anaesthetist. The hospital caseload consists of referral and primary accessions with a mixture of surgical and medicine cases and assisted reproduction during the breeding season.
The successful applicant will gain experience in surgery, medicine, anaesthesia, reproduction, ophthalmology, dentistry and diagnostic imaging. They will assist in the diagnosis and treatment of hospital cases working alongside the specialists and associate veterinarians. South Eastern Equine Hospital provides 24 hour care for horses.
Remuneration is discussion upon receipt of application, and is dependant on the level of experience of the applicant.
